Making my Pattern
I had already watched the HIP music video dozens, if not hundreds of times, but now I needed to search the depths of the internet in order to find any hint at what this garment looked like. I discovered the original brand - Namillia - and after seeing the bodysuit was out of stock and not coming back in stock I needed to make my own.
The first step is making a pattern! I believe I purchased and heavily modified Etsy pattern with the help of a friend (thank you Martha!)
I took pictures of the altered paper pattern with a ruler laying on top, imported those photos to Adobe Illustrator, adjusted the size and traced over the pattern pieces!
Creating my Design
This was essentially my love letter to the group, so I wanted to include as many Mamamoo motifs as I could while still maintaining the feel of the original styling. I incorporated the “Reality in Black” and :Purple logos” album logos, as well as the group and fandom names in Korean and romanized English to replace the existing graphics and wording.
Once I had my chosen pants, I Pantone matched their red to the file to guarantee the colors in my print would be just right after printing.
While the final result wasn’t a 1:1 recreation of the look, I’m very happy to say that it left an impression on the person who’s opinion mattered the most - Moon Byul.
